Brewer's Advent Day #4: Rheder Husarentrunk

The families of the Barons of Spiegel and the Barons of Mengersen are among the oldest and most important noble families in Germany. Rheder Castle has been the ancestral seat of the families since the 14th century.

The so-called "Vorburg" (outer castle) from 1716 served as the family's residence until the Rheder Castle was built in 1750 and was also used for the estate economy and the brewery. Brewing still takes place there today; in the left wing is the brewhouse, in the center the administration and the Hussar Museum.

The baroque castle looks simple, but inside it holds several treasures. Ceilings with lavish ornaments, the octagonal garden hall with a view of the landscaped park, where many couples have said "I do".

Rheder Husarentrunk: Gold-colored lager in the style of a Bavarian Märzen. Delicate hops note, a hint of honey. Light sweetness is accompanied by fine bitterness. Good drinkability, easy to drink.

My #4 & #8 were switched as well. I liked #8 better than #4 though. A little bitter for me.

My day 4 & day 8 beers were swapped (same with my neighbor's) so I'm having this on the 8th. Anyway, a good marzen, on the bitter side but not too much.

Day 4. The Rehder Husarentrunk has a great history and taste. This is a teeter-totter drink as it begins with the sweeter forward malt and finishes wit the bitter hops. Makes you think as you drink!

Not a bad beer, just not my favorite. The finish reminds me of the Carling Black Label that my Dad used to drink when I was kid.

As a big fan of amber beers, I am also obviously very fond of Marzen biers. This one is a little lighter than i am used to, but still has all of the flavors I expect. Theee is a nice opening nuttiness, and slight sweetness. I really like the ending hoppy notes that don't over power, but give a great hearty ending. By far my favorite of the 4 so far! Really wish I could find this bier to purchase!
