Beer Advent Day 22: Zwönitzer Winterstern

Since 1997, there has once again been a brewery in Zwönitz, Saxony, as there once was before the great wars. Dominik Naumann is the brewer and master brewer of the family business, which, in addition to the brewing kettles of the Zwönitz brewery, also includes a restaurant with fine guest rooms. The Naumanns welcome their visitors with a friendly “Glück auf!”

The product range is as typical of the region as the welcome. Black beer is a must in Saxony. This is the style of beer that no brewery in the German Democratic Republic could do without. Pilsner is also brewed, as they are close to the Czech Republic. And a smoked beer. We don't know whether this is due to the proximity to Franconia.

Zwönitzer Winterstern

With 6% alcohol, this amber-colored and unfiltered beer is a heavyweight. We wouldn't call it a bock beer, as that would require a little more original gravity. The fact is, Zwönitzer Winterstern will warm us up and its light sweetness will caress the palate.
