Brewer's Advent Day 8: Zwoenitzer Steinbier

Brewer's Advent Day 8: Zwoenitzer Steinbier

Many German breweries are named after the town in which they are located. The Zwönitz brewery is no exception. It is in Zwönitz, a small village in eastern Germany, near the Czech border. The beer from the small pub brewery is sold exclusively in the region. The brewery includes a fine inn with a beautiful beer garden. The hours flow lazily by, foods are delicious. And the beers? Typical for the region is the Schwarzbier, also Rauchbier is brewed here and a wonderful Amber Lager. Plus, stout and IPA ... Drank one too many? Right next door is the small hotel that belongs to the brewery. Just rent a room and celebrate the day. Today, enjoy the wonderful Steinbier from Zwönitz. Brewed according to a very old tradition, medieval style. With glowing hot stones, the brewers heated the mash. There was no other way back then, but today the brewers love the roasted aromas and the caramel notes that arise when the stones are added into the wort. Delightful. Cheers!

Haven't had many of this style, but I like it. It's a dark caramel color, bready kind of lingering aftertaste. Worth a try.

This might be our favorite beer yet! It definitely stands out amongst the other days beers.

Lol. Dark beer. I wish it was. Not my favorite of the lot, but still easy to drink.

Wouldn’t call this a dark beer, lighter than most, but has a nice color and taste!

Nice aroma, nice color. not what would call dark, but when in Bavaria…But the smoky taste ruins it. It’s finish reminds me of snelling an ashtray. This may be desirable for some, but totally off-putting to me. Worst of all, it gave me a headache…as I was drinking. Threw out most of it. I ran into another beer like this some time ago… could finish it either. Looking forward to next one!

Not dark but a honey golden color and rapidly disappearing head. Enjoyable flavors if light bodied on first taste but then falls a little flat and dank. The same can as pictured but not the dark brew described by many. Next one!
