Brewer's Advent Day #14: Flötzinger Hell

The Flötzinger brewery is firmly in family hands. Franz Steegmüller has been at the helm of the brewery for 60 years. "Faithful to the good" is the slogan of the owner family This is much more than marketing. It is a commitment to the quality of Flötzinger beers.

Tradition, modern technology and a lot of time
The beer variety is large, the assortment counts over 20 beers. These include Helles, Zwickl, Pils, Dunkles, light beers, various wheat beers and many specialties. They are brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law. Nevertheless, the brewery is not closed to new ideas, but combines the traditional art of brewing with the best modern technology. The careful handling of the precious raw materials, the German hops from, the malt from the region, runs through the entire production process. Time plays an important role. The beer matures for at least six weeks in the cold cellars of the Flötzinger Brewery before it is bottled.

Cheers!

Very nice, middle-of-the-road Helles beer. Not too sweet, but plenty of malt flavor. Very enjoyable.

Very good beer, but one thing I’ve noticed in this years calendar: Germany seems to be obsessed with Helles lagers. So much so, that even if it’s a stellar beer, you get tired of it because it’s over done. Much like the Pacific Northwest over does IPA’s. There good, and some are great, but you start to get tired of them, and the get “lost is the noise” of all the others. Maybe on next year’s calendar we could see these brewers show us some more variety? Like Bocks, Doppelbocks, Dunkels, or Altbiers?

Too many helles’ in this beer calendar this year. This one is pretty good though. Nice golden color, good head, and very smooth. Just wish there was more variety. Cheers!
