A brewery in princely hands
The Bavarian King Max I. Joseph once rewarded his Field Marshal Carl Philipp Fürst von Wrede by gifting him the Ellingen Castle along with its associated brewery, where fine beers have been brewed since 1690. Today, the castle brewery is managed by the sixth and seventh generations: His Highness Carl Friedrich Fürst von Wrede, His Princely Grace Carl Christian Fürst von Wrede, and Her Princely Grace Katalin Fürstin von Wrede.
In the copper brewhouse of the historic brewery, mainly typical Franconian beer specialties are brewed today. The raw materials come from the Bavarian homeland. The brewmaster personally knows his farmers and suppliers. This is important to him because it ensures that the raw materials meet his standards. The hops grow in the hop gardens in close proximity to Ellingen.
Fürst Carl Kellerbier
“Kellerbier” is the German word for unfiltered beer. These beers contain all the valuable ingredients from hops, malt, and yeast, including those that are usually lost during filtration. The amber-colored beer has a scent of linden blossoms, cardamom, and fruity notes. The first sip is soft on the palate with hints of caramel, grains, and straw. Beautifully balanced, gentle bitterness.
Cheers!
