Brewer's Advent 2023 Day 19: Memminger - Hell

Where the Alpes Glow

We travel to the Allgäu, a beautiful region at the foot of the Alps in the southwest of Germany. The snow glistens white on meadows and hills, and the silhouette of the Alps shines silver in the sunset. There, in the small town of Memmingen, there is a large brewery.

As is often the case in Germany, the name of the brewery refers to the place where it is located. So, our destination is the Memminger Brewery.

The Brewery has an adventurous history. Josef Herz laid the foundation in 1887 when he founded a guesthouse with a brewery, and he was not alone. At that time, there were 21 other breweries in the town.

Twenty years later, the three largest breweries, including Josef Herz's, joined forces and formed a joint-stock company. Success did not take long to follow. The “Bürgerliche Brauhaus” expanded, merged with the next brewery, bought another one, and so on. The facilities were modernized, a new brewing site was built, a new name created: Memminger Brewery.

Memminger Hell

The Memminger Brewery offers a range of different lager beers: Helles, Export, Pilsner, unfiltered Lager, and various wheat beers.

We enjoy the Memminger Hell. It shines with a golden brilliance in the glass, lightly carbonated, with subtle sweetness and fine biscuit notes. These are accompanied by a mild bitterness. Each sip is a delight. Cheers!

Ok, best label, but the beer was so so. Very smooth mouth feel, good aroma, very little fizz. 3.5.

This is not the beer from our advent calendar. The beer for the 19th is Alpen Stoff. I rate it as a 4.

Second day in a row with the wrong beer. I'm just going to grab them and not worry about what's on the app. Beer is still good though!

My Advent Calendar blessed me with Alpen Stoff, brewed by Unser Bürgerbräu, located in Bavaria. I think Americans will tend to like its elevated malt and hop character. This is a very good beer! Finally, the raven-haired beauty hosting today's beer tasting is my favorite host. Is her blouse coral or salmon?

Again not the right beer as the video. However it was a Mazen so that was good. Nice flavor, good head. I go with a 3.5. So I sure hope we get back on track
