Description
At the end of the 17th century, Paul Graf acquired the brewery in Zwettl from Gut Schickenhof and expanded it into a full brewery in 1708. As "Preyer auf den Stüegen," he worked to establish a dedicated springwater pipeline to the brewery, which was approved in 1710. Undoubtedly, this marked the first milestone on the path to success for the Zwettl brewery. Sometimes, even Bavarians play a role when it comes to good beer: In 1890, the Stiegenbrauerei was sold to the Bavarian brewer Carl Schwarz. Since then, the brewery has remained in family hands. Since 1996, the great-grandson, also named Karl, has been actively involved in the well-being of the brewery. He is engaged far beyond Zwettl, serving as the chairman of the Association of Austrian Breweries and co-founding the Association of Austrian Private Breweries.
