Description

The craft beer brand LaBieratorium got off to a flying start in Cottbus at the end of 2015. From the first home-brewed beer, which was brought to the Cottbus locals via ramp sales, through the company's own brewing facility to the pub - the Cottbus locals went through an eventful brewery history in a rapid cycle. But the rapid ascent came to an abrupt end. The surprising closure of the brewery in Cottbus and the "Labyrinth" bar on the Altmarkt at the end of 2018 and the bankruptcy of the company caused a stir not only in the craft beer scene. This news came as a surprise to everyone because the quality and creativity of the LaBieratorium beers was very much appreciated in the scene. As owner Olaf Wirths said on rbb | 24, brewing Cottbus beer in the city itself broke the neck of the lab. They wanted to achieve a greater identification of the Cottbusers with their beer, but apparently overused. Beer too expensive for Cottbuser "If we had brewed elsewhere it would have been cheaper and we would have survived", the boss is certain. The beer was simply too expensive for the Cottbusers. the awareness that there is too little to put on the table for a regional brand than for mass-produced goods. But perhaps the calculation didn't work out either because the Cottbusers' thirst was too low. Because just too little beer was sold on the doorstep. Regionality not in the first place Regionality and regional added value are not as much a priority in Lusatia as in other regions of Germany, for example in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. People are not ready to put up to three euros for a bottle of beer on the table. The good news: LaBieratorium has been reopening since mid-2019. The Bierothek with Christian Klemenz and Olaf Wirths from LaBieratorium now founded a new company for the continuation of the LaBieratorium beers and tellingly chose the name Collabieratorium as the name for the newly formed company. Based on the term collaboration brew, which describes the usual collaboration among craft beer brewers, LaBieratorium now dares to restart.
