Description

In 1363, Duke Rudolf IV granted the citizens of Freistadt town center the privilege of brewing beer in their own homes. The brewing commune in Freistadt was founded in 1770 and is today the largest private brewery in Upper Austria. The commune as a legal form of company is unique in Europe. Even today, the owners of the 149 inner-city houses are still the owners of the brewery. Freistädter beer is brewed with 100% Austrian raw materials. Brewing water from the brewery's own wells in St. Peter, malting barley from the Mühlviertel and Weinviertel regions and exclusively Mühlviertel hops are the ingredients for Freistädter beer.
