Brewing commune in Freistadt In 1363, Duke Rudolf IV granted the citizens of Freistadt the privilege of brewing beer in their own homes. To protect their interests, the residents of the 149 inner-city houses joined together in 1770 to form the "Braucommune in Freistadt". In 2020, the Freistadt brewery will therefore be celebrating its 250th anniversary. The share in the brewery was and still is inextricably linked with owning a house in the city center.
