Dogfish Head Brewery is a Milton, Delaware based brewery founded by Sam Calagione. It opened in 1995 and produces 262,000 barrels of beer annually. Dogfish Head was a fast growing brewery - it grew nearly 400% between 2003 and 2006. The brewery featured prominently in the Beer Wars documentary and featured in the Discovery Channel series Brew Masters, which premiered on Sunday, November 21, 2010. The brewery takes its name from Dogfish Head, Maine, where Calagione spent the summer as a kid. Select beers (including many of the brewery's seasonal and one-time beers) are available in 31 states. Dogfish Head in Washington, DC also licenses "Dogfish Head Alehouse" with three locations in Gaithersburg, Maryland, Falls Church, USA. Virginia and Fairfax, Virginia. Beer fare and vintage bottles of seasonal Dogfish Head beers are available in their alehouses, as are cask offerings of their base beers. The company also has a restaurant called Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats and a seafood restaurant called Chesapeake & Maine that only sources seafood from the waters of Chesapeake Bay and Maine. Both are located in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. On May 9, 2019, Dogfish Head announced that it would be acquired by the Boston Beer Company for $ 300 million.
