Description
"The Trotzenburg? Do I know ... "What would Rostock be without its Trotzenburg? Many Rostockers know the locality from their childhood when they were with their parents for coffee and cake in the beer garden (reminder: "Do not run too far!"). Later as an adult to the tea dance - so have many couples in Trotzenburg know and love each other. The roots of Trotzenburg go back to the Middle Ages. In 1578, for the first time, a building was mentioned in the forest "Auf dem weißen Dreesch", today's Barnstorf forest. Probably it was a secured Waldburg or "Trutzburg", in which forest workers, foresters and hunters protected themselves from roving bandits. In their seclusion, this kind of forest homestead was built like a castle. The Rostock Hospital "To the Holy Spirit" was until 1928 owner of "the hunting lodge, which is called Trotzenburg", later, land went on the city of Rostock. Forest officials become hosts - sociability The gastronomic history of Trotzenburg starts in August 1839, when the then woodworker Friedrich Moll was obviously underutilized and weekly sheltered a shooting club, which shot in the Barnstof forest on discs. Moll enjoyed the company and a juggling industry developed - much to the chagrin of an innkeeper from Bramow who feared for his business. It broke out a violent correspondence between Holzwärter Moll, the Krugwirt and the city of Rostock, which can still be read in the book "The Trotzenburg: From the forester's house to the brewery" by Jens Andrasch. In the course of time, the various landlords have repeatedly foundered and have had to fight against the world wars, inflation and expropriation. Until 1943 the Trotzenburg was operated as a forester's lodge with gastronomy, then as a coffee house, pastry shop and café. In the early 1950s, a tuberculosis treatment center with 80 beds was built in Trotzenburg. From 1954 to 1989 was then again a gastronomic use, now as a HO restaurant. In 2001, Ostsee-Brauhaus AG from Kühlungsborn converted the historic building into a brewery with its own beer production. Since 2015, we have revived the long-standing tradition as a forester's lodge - with high standards of quality, hospitality and well-being. The beer is in the center of the Trotzenburg In the 16th century, there were still 272 breweries in Rostock. At the time, beer was one of the healthiest drinks because it was nearly disinfected by boiling the brew during the brewing process. In the menu of 1905, however, there were only three beers: Rostock lager to 15 Pfennig, Graetzer beer to 20 Pfennig and Nuremberg to 25 Pfennig. The Rostock brewery supplied the Trotzenburg for a full 111 years until 1989 with beer. Today, the Forsthausbrauerei Trotzenburg is the second largest brewery in Rostock (although there are only two) and has many delicious varieties on offer. With pride and passion, the brewing trade and the gastronomy are operated. Tradition and regionality are important guidelines for our work and allow us to look to the future with confidence.
