Brasserie d'Orval S.A.

The abbey's Orval brewery, located on the abbey grounds, was founded in 1931 to finance the huge construction site of reconstruction. She hired lay people from the beginning, with the first brewmaster, Mr. Pappenheimer, inventing the recipe. The Orval brewery is demanding a modest production that is nevertheless not negligible: every year 22 million bottles are brewed, with more than 85% going to the Belgian market.
