Beer description
ack in May 2010, we had a visit here at Amager Bryghus from a man who at first glance looked like Frank Zappa's grandson - or perhaps an unknown younger brother of Snoop Dogg. But the name was neither Zappa nor Snoop, but rather Laffler, Mr. John Laffler from Chicago, Illinois. John is a brewer at the city's leading brewery Goose Island, and we got in touch with him when we participated in the World Beer Cup in Chicago earlier this year. At that time, we asked John if he would like to brew beer on Amager, which is Denmark's answer to Chicago - oh well, almost... John was given a free hand and came up with something as rare as a lightly smoked rye stout - thus Amager RyeKing was born.
In the glass, Amager RyeKing is black as pitch with a light brown foam. A full 22% of the malt comes from rye, and we guarantee you can taste it. RyeKing has a fantastic robustness without ever being heavy, while the smoke never becomes overpowering, but instead adds a slight spicy touch. The bitterness is dry and sharp and comes from both the roasted malts and the Northern Brewer hops. We're pretty happy with this transatlantic collaboration, and we have no doubt that you will be too once you've tasted Amager RyeKing!
