It is already a tradition that successful apprentices are allowed to crown their journeyman's examination with a journeyman's piece. Following in the footsteps of Gary Boothe, Jullian Zange and Nicolas Fries, the two young brewers Jannis Göbel and Emil Spilger were now allowed to create journeyman's piece no. 4 after completing their successful training. The result is a "summer beer" intended for the warmer season. The two have chosen the term "noble summer lager", which is more in keeping with the modern beer style. Lager as a term became established in the 19th century for all representatives of the bottom-fermented brewing method, to distinguish it from the top-fermented brewing method that had been used exclusively until then. Lager beers are fermented cold (5-10°C) and then stored cold for longer. (Hence the name).
