Lidl UK’s "Top Pick" this week is the Wiesn-Tragerl, priced at £24.99 (€30). Though marketed as "Octoberfest Beers," it’s not strictly an Oktoberfest pack. True Oktoberfest beer can only come from Munich breweries like Paulaner, Löwenbräu, Augustiner, and Hofbräu.
Other interesting beers in the pack include Kuchlbauer’s Gillamoosbier and Schneider Weisse’s Festweisse, both with historical connections to Munich. Schneider Weisse even had a Weißbier tent at the Oktoberfest before 1933, and the recipe for their Festweisse traces back to those times.
The remaining beers are from various Bavarian breweries like Wildbräu, Ettl, and Irlbach. While these aren't Oktoberfest beers, they offer a flavorful journey through Bavaria’s rich beer tradition.
The Wiesn-Tragerl, created by us, an Austrian beer gift company KALEA, is a seasonal, limited edition pack. It stands out from typical KALEA sets, featuring 0.5L bottles (instead of the usual 0.33L). The box comes with a tasting guide, helping you rate each of the 10 beers. It’s a fun way to compare festbiers, whether for a tasting session or just for some personal enjoyment.
Although the "Octoberfest Beers" label is more marketing than reality, this pack delivers a genuine Bavarian experience for anyone in the UK looking to enjoy traditional festbiers. It's a great option for a cozy evening at home, or a thoughtful gift for beer lovers.
