Brewer's Advent Day 16: Herrnbraeu Tradition

Brewer's Advent Day 16: Herrnbraeu Tradition

Ingolstadt in the 17th century. The Bavarian Purity Law was about a hundred years old when the Herrnbräu brewery was founded. At that time there were about a dozen breweries in the city. They joined forces and founded one of the first shareholding companies in Germany - the "Actienbrauerei Ingolstadt". Since the 1960s, the beers were sold under the name "Herrnbräu". Year after year Herrnbräu Tradition is brewed to celebrate the birthday of the Purity Law. It is a true German Style Festbier whose recipe has remained unchanged for many, many years. Enjoy the fine beer, cheers!

As others commented, little bit metallic actually. Batch issue possibly?

Others said the same surprisingly, but had a notable metallic taste. Likely the water source as most industrial breweries use stainless steel now.

This is the worst beer of the bunch so far. It smelled off and tasted liked skunked beer. So it was either actually skunked or just a bad beer.

Out of all the beers you I've tasted this has been my favorite. Not sure why others did not like it. Hmmm

20+ beer lovers probably aren't wrong. Metallic for sure, taste looking for any kind of definition.

All these beer lovers can't be wrong, apart from the metallic taste, just an inferior beer. I'd try it at the brewery to see if it's better right out of the barrel.

This is the first comment I've done on these beers. I've read them all but felt like I should contribute to this one. Not only does it taste metallic, but it smells extremely metallic. The least enjoyable of them all to me.

This is a great beer. Grassy, malty, perfectly bittered and alarmingly crushable. Flawless festbier, drink this one by the 10’s.

Maybe I got a bad one, but this one left an aftertaste of rusty nails. I loved the can, the color, foam and smell, but that metallic taste was literally sickening. Sorry. Never happened before and hopefully never again.

Poured a hazy golden with minimal amount of head. Medium body, grain flavors and some biscuit. Grassy on the nose. Nice amount of bitterness on the backend.

Great fest beer. Flavorful and a favorite so far! Excellent local brewery of the medieval walled city of Ingolstadt on the Danube river.

Tasty. Not too complex. Nice malty with just a hoppy whisper in the finish. Smooth.
