Brewer's Advent 2023 Day 7: ÜberQuell - Bambule Pils

ÜberQuell Brauwerkstätten

We are travelling to Hamburg, to the St. Pauli district. The Reeperbahn with its many nightclubs and bars is not far away.

In 2017, Axel Ohm and Patrick Rüther fulfilled their dream of owning their brewery. Halfway between the iconic “Landungsbrücken” and the famous fisch market, they have transformed the protected historic building known as the "Riverkasematten" into the ÜberQuell Brauwerkstätten.

During the summer, the vintage-style beer garden with colorful storage tanks is inviting. On rainy days (which are frequent in Hamburg), you can sit inside at the large communal table with a view of the pizza oven, crafted by one of the last Neapolitan pizza oven manufacturers.

A historic Beer Book

A noteworthy attraction is the small brewery museum located in the corridor between the restaurant and the brewery. There, you can admire a true rarity: a copy of the book "Die Kunst Bier zu brawen" (The art of brewing beer) by Henricus Knaust, published in 1575. It is one of the oldest and most important beer books in the world, and only three copies have survived, one of which belongs to ÜberQuell.

Bambule Pils

For a long time, a Pilsner was missing from the brewery's standard range. The ÜberQuell brewers took their time and fine-tuned extensively, aiming to create the perfect Pilsner. This was no easy task, as Pilsner is the favorite beer style of Northern Germans, who are very demanding and critical. Bambule Pils is not just accepted; it's greatly loved.

Enjoy Bambule Pils from Hamburg!

Worst bier I’ve ever tasted. Poured it down the drain after two sips. Only time I’ve ever done that after 50 yrs of beer drinking. Favorite is lagers but like both Pils and wheat based brews. This was way over the top. Another like this one will make me reconsider purchasing next year’s Brewer’s Adventure Calendar.

The can is really cool but the beer is more like a IPA. Almost to bitter for my liking

This was my day 3.... I still like the beers that I've had so far... But it is just frustrating to not align with what beers were meant to be this year's batch... Fyi, I am in USA, the calendar was purchased at DC Costco. The beers so far are stamped with the same expiration date (Mar2024) as the cans from last year. VERY much seems like literally last year's leftover beers were repacked into cartons with 2023 markings. Would definitely check out the distribution path.

We appreciate your feedback. The customer support team had a further look into this. The different beer selection in some US states is due to different licencing processes. Some beers simply couldn’t be licensed in time as was planned for this year’s season. For this reason, already licenced ones where used for some states as a replacement. We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused and are hoping you enjoy the beers in your Brewer’s Advent Calendar! Have yourself a great Brewers Advent and Christmas time.

#5 the best Pilsner ever, very complex tasting strong and cloudy. Not sure really a Xmas bier but since it’s a strong Pilsner ok. However you guys repeated this from last year. That’s 3 out of 7 days now. I think the label is a little silly, reminds me of all the cartoon labels on American micro beers. Maybe marketed for the younger Generation. I like traditional labels.Overall great beer
