Beer Advent Day 7: Further Kloster Hell

Beer Advent Day 7: Further Kloster Hell

A brewery invoice from 1612 is used as proof of the long history of beer brewing in the municipality of Furth near Landshut. There are no exact figures - why should there be? The last 30 years are significant.

The new monastery brewery

Let's start in 1993, when the Schlossbrauerei Hohenthann brewery takes over the brewing kettles of the Further Klosterbrauerei, but has to cease operations five years later for economic reasons. The Further Kloster beers - a light and a dark lager - are retained and brewed in Hohenthann. The brewery disappears.

In 2015, the Further Klosterbrauerei is revived. The Rauchenecker family from the Hohenthann castle brewery develops the concept of a show brewery with a brewery parlor and herb garden. Groundbreaking ceremony in 2019 and opening on October 23, 2020. Furth has a monastery brewery again. With an output volume of 500 liters per brew, it is small but mighty. It is enough to supply the Braustüberl. The bottled beers are brewed with the same (organic) ingredients according to the same recipes in Hohenthann.

Great success at the European Beer Star 2024

Gold in the “German-Style Helles” category! To understand the significance of the award, you need to know how fierce the competition is at the European Beer Star. Although the beer competition has “European” in its name, it is considered the world championship in beer. Breweries from all over the world send their beers to Nuremberg when the judges invited by the organizer “Verband Private Brauereien Deutschland” meet for an expert tasting. There were 2,360 beers from 50 countries around the world this year. The “German-Style Helles” category is considered one of the “royal classes” with the most entries.

We take our hats off to the master brewers of the wonderful Further Kloster Hell and - last but not least - mention the organic certification of the fine, liquid gold.

GREAT Sadness! I'm extremely bummed out that I cannot participate in this years Brewers Advent Calander. I've looked all around but I can't find any vendor in my area who's selling it this year... 😢 To everyone out there who is enjoying the fine beers in the calander, please enjoy them twice as much, for me! PROST! SKÅL! CHEERS!🍻
