Beer Advent Day 6: Sündenbock 2024

The Sündenbock is Kalea's third “own brew”. Today, on St. Nicholas' Day, it is a reminder of the Krampus. The frightening figure who enters houses alongside St. Nicholas in Austria and parts of southern Bavaria and punishes supposedly bad children. The Krampus' appearance is gloomy, his face blackened or - even worse - hidden behind a creepy wooden mask.

Kalea Gipsy No. 3: The Sündenbock

Our Krampus beer is not quite as gruesome and scary as the frightening figure. And yet caution is advised. Because the Sündenbock is powerful and strong: a bock beer, golden yellow and radiant. With 6.9% alcohol, the light bock is full-bodied and strong.

To ensure that the full aroma comes into its own, it is advisable not to enjoy the bock beer too cold. Around 10 degrees Celsius is ideal. Then its fullness glides voluptuously over the palate, its aftertaste warms and gently mists the senses.

Who brewed the Kalea Sündenbock?

This year, the choice fell on the private brewery Barre. The brewery is located in the green heart of East Westphalia, in Lübbecke at the foot of the Wiehengebirge mountains. The Barre family has been running the brewery for six generations since it was founded in 1842. Despite their love of tradition, they have invested in the quality of their beers time and again over the years, modernizing the brewery and making it fit for the future. This has paid off.
