Beer Advent Day 5: Herrngiersdorf Castle Brewery in Bavaria

For non-Bavarians, let us explain: a grump is a grumpy person who grumbles, complains, whines and is angry. Nothing can please them. They are always upset. The Santa Claus on the label of our beer today is clearly such a grump.

A beer for the grumblers of this world

What luck that the contents calm the nerves. This typical Bavarian festive beer soothes the pre-Christmas mood with its elegant aroma. Subtle hop blossom, accompanied by cookie and honey. A fresh, tingling attack, full-bodied with a sweetness typical of the style. Hhmmm...  Every single sip brings the grouch closer to relaxation.

Herrngiersdorf Castle Brewery

Herrngiersdorf is located between Kehlheim and Landshut. The small community has less than 1,500 inhabitants, but it does have a stately building, Herrngiersdorf Castle. The brewery from which our current beer comes is named after it. The brewery has been owned by the Pausinger family since 1899. The castle brewery is much, much older, over 890 years old. It can be traced back to 1131, making it one of the oldest breweries in the world.

Do you know any breweries that are older than the Schlossbrauerei Herrngiersdorf? There are, two of them are in Bavaria, one is even world-famous.
