Description
Widmer Brothers is a brewery founded in 1984 in Portland, Oregon, USA by the brothers Kurt and Robert H. Widmer. It is part of the Craft Brew Alliance, Inc., the 9th largest brewery in the United States. In 1986, the Widmer brothers brought their Hefeweizen to America. It has since gained a lot of popularity in the states. In November 2007, Redhook Ale Brewery and Widmer Brothers officially announced merger plans and formed a new company called the Craft Brewers Alliance, later renamed the Craft Brew Alliance in 2012. The merged company retains the two brands Redhook and Widmer. The two had been working closely together for several years with a licensing agreement in which Redhook brought and distributed Bramer beer on the East Coast. Anheuser-Busch, which previously held a minority interest in both companies, continued to hold in the new company.
