Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (ThaiBev) is a Thai company based in Bangkok. The Thai Beverage Plc. was founded in 2003 by Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi when he merged his then 58 companies in the beverage sector into one group. When it was founded, it had registered capital of 20 billion baht. The oldest brand of the ThaiBev group, Mekhong, has been around since 1941. In the 1980s, Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi bought all the licenses for the spirits production that was still under a state monopoly at the time. In 1991 he expanded to the beer market liberalized in the same year by founding a joint venture with the Danish brewery group Carlsberg. In 1995, Chang-Bier, the best-known product from ThaiBev, came onto the market. Carlsberg withdrew from the joint venture in 2003 and ThaiBev emerged. In December 2017, ThaiBev acquired a majority stake in the Vietnamese brewery SABECO (Saigon beer)
