Description

We are two ice hockey enthusiasts from northern Germany. Since we come from Timmendorfer Strand, where ice hockey has a long tradition, we both of course grew up with this sport. Olli was even an active player. Interest in hockey has brought us to the US regularly over the past few years, where we follow our favorite NHL team, the Boston Bruins, live in the stadium. But apart from sport, another passion was rekindled on these trips: We rediscovered beer for ourselves! Because for both of us at home, beer was actually just boring, filtered Pilsener, which differed from other beers only in the degree of bitterness. Ok, sometimes a wheat from Bavaria or a black beer brought variety if there was a restaurant on the menu for once. In any case, the variety of beers in the land of the German Purity Law was very manageable and monotonous. In Boston we got to know new "old" beer styles through the regional craft beer breweries. We were immediately enthusiastic about the intensely fruity IPAs, the hoppy grassy pale ales and seasonal specialties, such as pumpkin beer for Halloween and gingerbread beer at Christmas time ... The variety of flavors that was achieved there with different types of malt and hops was simply not available in Germany at the time to get. Since we couldn't buy such beers from online retailers, or only with great difficulty, we decided to start brewing at home ... Since then we have always been developing and creating our recipes for new beers in small quantities in our own brewery cellar. From mashing in, boiling the wort, lautering, cooling to filling bottles, we still make every beer there by hand. With each recipe anew until we are absolutely satisfied with the result. When a recipe is mature, we brew in larger batches. Since we currently only have a tiny 50 liter home brewing system, we use the option of third-party brewing. Also known as cuckoo brews and gypsy brews, we use the free capacities of other breweries and produce our beer there according to our own recipe. Sudden Death Brewing stands for our two passions, ice hockey and beer brewing! Therefore, elements from both areas can be found in our logo. Ice hockey sticks and the classic goalie mask in combination with the brewing or mash paddles and eye openings in the form of hop cones. At the same time, sudden death in sport stands for the game decision based on the first goal scored in an extension of the game. In ice hockey, an extension like this is one of the most exciting moments of all. And our beers should be just as exciting! We have set ourselves the goal of brewing unusual, interesting but always drinkable beers.
