Description

The site of the former Reckendorf Castle was located where the large church fair tent stands today every year. As the builder of the first palace complex, Eckart von Schefstal, attested as early as 1349, is likely to be considered. Documents from the Bamberg and Würzburg state archives show that from 1597 - perhaps even earlier - the castle property was given a bar and brewing license, which has existed and been exercised continuously since that time. The palace complex experienced an eventful history in the following centuries. It was completely destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. Hardly rebuilt in 1535, from 1552 it was repeatedly looted by the notorious Margrave Albrecht Alcibiades. In the course of the 19th century the water castle deteriorated and was finally completely removed. Only the brewery and restaurant remained. In 1926 the property finally came into the possession of the episcopal cathedral chapter of Würzburg by way of a donation. A new chapter At the request of the pastor in Reckendorf at the time, Georg Dirauf, who was born in Reckendorf, leased the brewery and restaurant in 1930. The annual beer output was only 400 hectoliters when the company was taken over. In 1952 Georg Dirauf bought the brewery property. Georg Dirauf learned the craft of brewing and malting at the Zeck brewery in Reckendorf. He then worked in breweries in Thuringia, Switzerland, France, Frankfurt and Wuppertal. In 1938 he passed his master craftsman examination. Thanks to the initiative of Georg Dirauf, this originally small and completely unprofitable rural brewery has developed into a stately business over the years, whose ever-growing customer base has required expansion and modernization measures. After Georg Dirauf's death, his daughter Lonia Eichhorn ran the company. As their successor, their son, graduate engineer and master brewer Dominik Eichhorn, controls the brewery today. For the future Since the end of the eighties, almost the entire brewery has gone through an extensive investment program to increase output capacity and ensure product quality. The concerns of operational environmental protection were taken into account in all technical measures. The castle brewery presents itself today in terms of brewing technology at the highest level. Consumers can choose from a full range of currently eleven beer specialties, one mixed beer drink and fourteen non-alcoholic beverages from our own production. All products are presented to the customer in an appealing product configuration. Quality and a convincing appearance are the best prerequisites for future market success.
