In 1997 it was time after a long preparation time opened Schinkels Brauhaus on 17.10.1997 in the Oberburgstraße in Witzenhausen its doors. The Schinkel family has been living and working in Witzenhausen for more than 300 years. The beginning was justified by the construction of the bakery mill outside the city gates at the creek of Gelster (now Walburgerstraße 48). Here, the flour was ground for the bakers in the village. In 1934, master baker Wilhelm Schinkel opened a traditional craft bakery, which quickly became the starting point for the surrounding residents. Here, in addition to bread and rolls, the homemade cake of the housewives was pushed into the bakery oven and baked. This tradition was continued by his son Karl Schinkel. In 1997, today's owner Rainer Schinkel decided to return to his homeland. After brewery studies, brewery studies and various career stations in other breweries, he decided to found a brewery on the family property in Witzenhausen. The idea was to combine the parental bakery business with a small home brewery. This was then also done until the death of Karl Schinkel in 2000. After his death, the bakery had to close as a permanent operation. Today, the bakery is exclusively for bus and visitors groups and baked after a tasty family recipe beer loaves.
