Description
The Velké Popovice brewery dates back to the 16th century and is located partly in the village of Velké Popovice and partly in the village of Petříkov in the Prague-East district. Since 2002 it has belonged to Plzeňský Prazdroj as, which was part of the SABMiller group until 2016]. It currently belongs to the group of Asahi Breweries, Ltd. He started brewing beer in the 16th century and it was brewed here until wars broke out in the first half of the 18th century. The brewery was not re-established until three centuries later, in 1871 by the founder František Ringhoffer. He decided to build a new brewery in Velké Popovice, which he expanded, equipped with technical innovations and had new wells built. The first batch of beer was brewed here three years later since its modern founding. The year 1874 is the basic date of the modern history of the Velkopopovický goat, the emblem of which was created by a French painter. In March 1999 Plzeňský Prazdroj, as merged with Pivovar RADEGAST as, the current majority owner of the shares in Velké Popovice Brewery. Since October 1999 the entire group has been owned by South African Breweries (plc.) Via the Dutch company South African Breweries International (SAB). The formal merger of the Czech breweries took place in October 2002 in the commercial register.
