Description

Beer was brewed in the Upper Austrian capital of Linz for 145 years. In 1981 it was over. The then Brau AG stopped brewing in Linz. The brewhouse was demolished in 1987. The history of Linz beer began in 1836 at the site of today's Brau-Union headquarters in Poschacherstrasse in the east of Linz. At that time, the farmer Franz Lehner founded a small brewery at this location, which the businessman Matthias Radler soon bought. In 1854 Michael Poschacher bought the brewery. No suitable brewing location is currently available in the city of Linz. The new Linz beer is therefore brewed just a stone's throw from Linz in the traditional Brewery Zipf. Based on the historical recipe from the old Poschacher brewery, the Zipf brewing location guarantees the Linz beer the highest quality standards. The Linz beer is brewed with 100% Mühlviertel hops. The majority of the malting barley used is sourced regionally. The brewing water comes from the in-house source. However, the Linz beer should return to its home in the future and be brewed in the building of the former power plant of the tobacco factory in Linz, the hometown of master brewer Martin Simion. Completion is scheduled for autumn 2021. Martin Simion also came up with the idea of using the original recipe when reissuing Linzer beer. He has been dealing with the beer history of the state capital Linz for more than ten years.
