Description

The history of Smithwick begins long before a Smithwick ever set foot in Kilkenny. In the 13th century, monks settled in the Abbey of St. Francis. For more than 300 years, the abbey grew. The arrival of Henry VIII and the Reformation in 1537 meant that the abbey was forced to close its doors. This was followed by John and Edmond Smithwick, who gave their name to the brewery in 1827. Di production has grown from 5,000 barrels to 40,000 within 10 years. At the end of the 19th century, Smithwicks increased production and began selling mineral water. The name of Smithwick meant something to drinkers. Nine generations of Smithwick men have been working to do this all their lives. It spoke of quality, reliability and the perfect combination of technology and tradition. It spoke of independence, trust and triumph over adversity. Today, you find the same qualities in every pint of Smithwick and everyone involved. Smithwicks is still brewed at the highest level and is still enjoyed worldwide.
