Description

In 1846, Heidelberg-born brewer Johann Lorenz Schlechter came to Lindau and began working as a brewer at the Steigbrauerei. Just three years later, he acquired a brewery in the Grub, today's Schlechterbräu. From this point on, the Schlechter family was instrumental in the development of brewing and the brewing tradition in Lindau. The takeover of the Simmerberg share brewery by the Inselbrauerei took place in 1932. For brewing reasons, the two breweries helped each other out by brewing different types of beer. Unfortunately, the Inselbrauerei Lindau ceased its brewing operations in 1972. The Aktienbrauerei Simmerberg is thus the last brewery with a historical connection to the town of Lindau. With the Lindauer Hell brand, which once led to the great success of the Lindau Island Brewery, the Lindau Island Brewery is being brought back to life. Thus, the brewing tradition in Lindau finds its new beginning again.
