Description
The history of the oldest brewery in Salzburg begins with the laying of the foundation stone by the Salzburg merchant Hans Elsenheimer. This made use of the geological peculiarities in Kaltenhausen. The place owes its name to the cool air that flowed out of the wind tubes of the bar stones. Here, where the clearest rock spring water from the Barmsteins favored the production and underground cold rooms the storage of beer in a special way, he built the so-called “Cold Brewery” in 1475. In 1498 the brewery became the property of the Salzburg archbishops and became the Hofbräu Kaltenhausen. Much has changed and changed in the long history of Hofbräus Kaltenhausen, but one constant has remained to this day: the idea of preserving traditions and at the same time being open to new things. This credo also guided the opening of the specialty manufactory and the meeting point for beer culture in 2011.
