Description

Even if, at the beginning of our brewery history in 1883, our brewery was nowhere near as important as it is today, it was a matter close to our hearts from the very beginning. While our main business consisted of selling draft beer - the Pittermännchen were delivered by our Köbessen on carts all over the city center - our brewery was already serving Cologne classics such as “Krüstchen” or “Halven Hahn”. If a Pittermännchen, the name comes from the Peter and Paul festival on June 29th, was too much for you, you can use the siphon sale in the brewery. By the way, we still like to fill your siphons in the brewery today. Maybe that's an idea if you want to enjoy your fresh Päffgen Kölsch comfortably on the couch, but a barrel is simply too big for you. In 1934 our brewery was expanded for the first time. We were able to purchase the neighboring house, the so-called villa, and merged it with the main house after some renovation work. This created two more rooms that can be reached from the tavern. The "cabin" is a small, partly separated room directly behind the Fassbock, which can accommodate about 20 guests. The "Sälchen" is a separate room with approx. 40 seats, which is only connected to the auditorium by a large window and is particularly popular with larger groups who like to enjoy the hustle and bustle in the middle of the brewery - but still a bit “among themselves " want to be. At the same time, we moved the kitchen to the first floor in order to be able to significantly enlarge the dining area. A new beginning in ruins World War II demanded a high price from the people of Cologne. And our brewery was also hit by bombs during the last major attack by the Allied air forces and almost completely destroyed. As if by a miracle, our adjoining brewery remained without major damage. After the end of the war, we immediately started to rebuild the brewery and repair the brewery. It took a total of three years until we were finally able to serve Päffgen-Kölsch again on Easter Monday 1949.
