IT ALL BEGAN IN GERMANY IN 1999 ... ... then a young restaurateur who was enthusiastic about the Duff brand - initially produced in Australia - and who was enthusiastic about its history, registered the "word and image brand" Duff Beer with the German patent and Trademark Office. He also wanted to promote and sell this legendary beer in German gastronomy. But - as is the case - you don't always create reality through the wish - and so the brand unfortunately remained unused for the time being. 2009 - AND YOU ARE OUT. Until 2009 - when a DJ who used to be friends with our restaurateur registered another brand called “DUFF Beer” under the name DUFF Beer - although he knew about the existing trademark protection of his friend - and found a contract bottler for it. Soon after, this DJ sued our young restaurateur to have his “Duff Beer” brand deleted because of “non-use”. He also lost in the first instance. 2012 - THE SHOW MUST GO ON. And almost it would have been, because he simply didn't have the money for lengthy litigation. But he found a supporter - today's Duff Beverage GmbH in Munich. The not only financed the trademark litigation of the next instance before the Higher Regional Court of Nuremberg, which was won, but also fought the matter through to the Federal Court of Justice (BGH). And that confirmed the existence of the word-image trademark from 1999 - on December 2nd, 2012. TODAY, TOMORROW, ALWAYS ON. So this day became a legendary date for a legendary beer. And an example that it is worth fighting passionately for a legend. To the passion! To our duff!
