Description

As the name suggests, before the brewery existed a castle, or rather a fortress in Sandersdorf, whose roots go back to the Middle Ages, built by the Lords of Sandersdorf. The brewery was founded in 1550, when the fortress was owned by the Muggenthalers. At that time, brewing was still done directly in the castle. In 1650, the castle and brewery came into the possession of Johann Jakob Lossius, who bequeathed both to Dominikus de Bassus in 1675 - the era of the noble family of the Barons de Bassus in Sandersdorf began. Until today, the name "de Bassus" is inseparably connected with the castle and the brewery. Under the leadership of the barons, the brewery was moved to the shady northern slope at the foot of the rock in 1946 for reasons of space. In the process, the storage cellars for the beer were cut deep into the rock. This not only cools the beers naturally, but also gives the Sandersdorf beers their special taste to this day. The beer output of the de Bassus Schlossbrauerei Sandersdorf rose to around 20,000 hectoliters in the best times and the beers were exported internationally. Until 1995, the brewery was owned by the Barons de Bassus. In the following years, it continued to be operated by various private owners. Since 01.01.2019, the castle brewery is now in the hands of brewmasters Leonhard Salleck and Jacob Horsch, who are ushering in a new era in Sandersdorf, but without forgetting the history: Only organic beer is now brewed here - under the old name and the old signet of "de Bassus Schlossbrauerei Sandersdorf".
