In the countryside, the traditional, artisanal brewing still has its distinctive, typical breweries. We can also count on them, the white beer brewery Karg based in Murnau. Our specialty is a top-fermented wheat beer with a reduced carbonation content which re-fermentes with live yeast in the bottle. Franz Schubert, as the current brewer of the brewery Karg, understood early on that it can be worthwhile to rely entirely on the success of a niche. And such was the wheat beer segment in 1980, when Franz Schubert discontinued the brewing of bottom-fermented beer and concentrated entirely on wheat beer. At that time he realized with extreme farsightedness that wheat beer has the makings of a successful product. The brewery Karg is a commitment to tradition in the middle of the historic center of the market town of Murnau am Staffelsee.
