On April 23, 1516, Duke William IV of Bavaria issued the decree on the oldest state-of-the-art food regulation in the world at the State Estate Congress in Ingolstadt. The "Purity Law" forms the basis for the world-wide reputation of Bavarian beer. As early as the 18th century, constitutional statesman Freiherr von Kreittmayr described beer as "the fifth element of Bavaria". Today, as more than 375 years ago, Hacklberger beer brewers brew their tasty and wholesome beer from water, quality malting barley and full-bodied hops.
