Beer description

The English ale variety Barley Wine is by definition a strong beer made from barley malt with an alcohol content similar to wine. After a lengthy storage period, the finished beer was racked into used Scotch whisky barrels, in which it was allowed to mature for a further three months. The wooden barrels came from the famous Ardbeg Distillery in Port Ellen on the small island of Islay along the west coast of Scotland. The malt for these whiskies is kilned using peat from the Islay peat bogs as fuel, which gives the whiskies their smoky terroir character. As our Barley Wine rested in the casks, it absorbed these delicate smoky peat notes in harmonious balance alongside the strong notes of our malts. The long finish therefore reveals aspects of dried stone fruit, caramel malts and mild peat phenolic.
