Beer description
Limfjordsporter, or ‘The Gentleman of Beer’, is an almost black bottom-fermented porter with a creamy light brown head. The flavour is complex and dominated by liquorice, smoke, roasted barley and malt sweetness, and nicely balanced with a marked bitterness from the hops.
Thisted Bryghus bought the rights to the name and the characteristic blue/orange label when Urban Bryggeriet, Aalborg, closed down in 1986. In 1989, Limfjordsporteren was released by Thisted Bryghus, but former brewmaster Peter Klemensen continued to develop the recipe until 1997, when he felt it could not be further improved.
Since then, this beer has become an icon in the beer world, and it is one of the relatively few products from Thisted Bryghus that can be found outside the country's borders - most recently in the USA, where it is available on tap in several well-stocked beer bars.
Most people enjoy Limfjordsporter on its own without food, but try it with hearty simmering dishes or the sophisticated accompaniment to oysters
