Inspired by traditional pastries brewed by monks for the monks' table, Spencer is a full-bodied, golden Trappist ale with fruit accents, a dry finish and bright hop bitterness. St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. According to the Benedictine tradition of ora et labor (prayer and work), the monks follow a simple contemplative prayer, manual labor and hospitality. The brewery supports the monks and their charitable work.
Whilst it has subtle under tones the overall taste is disappointing for a trappist beer, rather plain I thought but still better than a lager. Not worth paying a lot of money for.
