Beer description

'Sane Satan' is a 'brewed craft drink' that uses the same production methods and ingredients as craft beer. Developed to offer new variety to the non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beverage market in Japan, it is low in alcohol content at 0.7%, yet has the flavour of India Pale Ale (IPA), the most popular beer style in craft beer. The yeast is the Bergen Ardnes yeast used in Yachting Brewing's beer production. It has succeeded in producing a beer-like aroma even during a short fermentation to reduce the alcohol content. A total of seven hop varieties are used, including Citra, with an aroma reminiscent of passion fruit and lychee, and Mosaic, with a slightly sweet, fruity aroma like tropical fruits such as mango and papaya. In the dry-hopping process, in which hops are added to the beer during fermentation to impart an aroma, approximately twice as many hops are used as in Blue Demon of India to achieve the gorgeous aroma of an IPA, despite the low alcohol content. When fermentation is stopped in a short time to reduce the alcohol content, the yeast does not break down the sugar content sufficiently, resulting in a thin and 'watery' taste or a strong sweet 'worty' taste. By using wheat and oats, the 'watery' taste was reduced and a smooth taste was achieved. Fermentation was strictly controlled in terms of the amount of malt used and the temperature during production, thereby eliminating the strong sweet 'wortiness'. The fresh aroma of citrus and tropical fruits, created by the aroma hops and yeast, is a feature of this beer. The taste is fresh and clean, yet full of juicy, mouth-watering IPA flavour. The name 'Sane Satan' is a reference to its low alcohol content of 0.7%, which is expressed by the word 'sane'. The word 'Satan' was inspired by expressions such as 'devilishly delicious' and 'addictive', which are used when something tastes out of the ordinary. By crossing the words 'sanity' and 'Satan', the drink expresses the fact that, despite its low alcohol content of 0.7%, it can provide both the euphoria of drinking alcohol and a sense of fulfilment a little further into the future (after the meal and the day after). The packaging features the 'goat' motif often used to depict Satan, with a design of a character wearing sunglasses and dressed in his favourite suit, enjoying life in a giddy mood. The pastel colouring expresses the lightness of the product.
