The nose is immediately reminiscent of the great Scotches of the 60s and 70s, both peaty and smoky but very elegant, a sort of lacework straight from the Isle of Islay. Over and above this earthy, wood-fired appearance come the luscious woody, vanilla and slightly spicy barrel aromas. The palate is smooth and powerful, reminiscent of smoky dark chocolate, with perfect balance. There's vanilla and a hint of caramel from the barrel ageing. A powerful yet elegant, complex beer for fans of Scottish travel... For me, a fucking great masterpiece!
