Beer description
What will result from the meeting of West Coast IPA and Hazy IPA? Well, a style that has been dubbed Midwest IPA. We decided to brew a lighter version of it as part of our Our New IPA Needs No Intruduction series of beers.
The malt side of this beer is built on pilsner malt, but to add a "hazy" character we also used oat malt and wheat and oat flakes. The beer is velvety and juicy, but not overly sweet.
Three fantastic American hops - El Dorado, HBC 630 and Loral - are responsible for the aroma and bitterness. This blend brought the aroma of watermelon to the forefront, which is successively joined by aromas of fresh lime juice and tangerines. The whole is crowned with pleasant, slightly sweet notes of flowers and pears.
The beer itself is insanely drinkable, well balanced. The juiciness and fullness are not overwhelming, and the decidedly higher herbal bitterness is very emphasized.
Balance - that's the word that probably best describes the composition of this beer.
Hops
