Beer description

Helle was born on 20 June 1895 by Georg Sedlmayer in Munich's Spatenbräu as a response to the success of Czech and North German Pils brewers. It quickly enjoyed increasing popularity and over the years became the most widely drunk beer style in Munich. And not only there - "Ein Helles" was the favourite order at Germany's counters for many years. But over the years, the Helle fell into oblivion - at least north of the Main line. Now it is celebrating a happy resurrection - and in the iconic Euro bottle as it once was. In terms of beer style, the Helle is closely related to the Pilsner, which is also made clear by its light straw-yellow colour and fine white foam. The main difference lies in the amount of bitter hops added, which is much more subtle in the pale than in the pilsner. The aromatic result is a beer that is as invitingly fresh-smelling as it is malty, drinkable and full-bodied with a really subtle hop bitterness in the finish. Cheers! By the way: In 2019, the Helle was the first beer with the further developed logo of the Lahnsteiner Brewery, the first beer of the new label generation, and the first beer to flow into the Euro bottle again after decades. Since then, it has become one of the most popular Lahnsteiner bottled beers. And another anecdote from Dr. Markus Fohr: "Many people tell me that they don't drink top-fermented beer because it's too sweet for them. The same people often tell me that they really like drinking Helles. The joke is: with 16 bitter units, the pale is sweeter than the top-fermented with 19!"
