Beer description
“Nebelschwaden” is a light and fruity hopped Pale Ale, brewed with the new ‘Pomona’ yeast from Lallemand. The hops used are Riwaka from New Zealand and Bravo and Mosaic from the USA.
Velvety soft mouthfeel, lots of tropical fruits in the nose and on the palate. Hoppy, fruity, fresh. Citrus fruits, orange, grapefruit and a hint of pine. Light in alcohol and full of flavor. A high proportion of wheat and oat malt make for a velvety soft mouthfeel and actually also for a nice cloudiness, which was also present during bottling, but then settled quite quickly in the bottle and the beer became clear. Not bad in itself, but it clarified differently than planned.
The main reason was an incorrect water profile (we had planned a different malt bill with more original gravity) and therefore didn't brew this beer quite as “planned”. Still nice and cloudy in the tank and then clear a few days after bottling. Nevertheless, it's very tasty and we don't want to withhold it from you, but in case you're wondering, here's some clarification. The new “Pomona” yeast is not only supposed to provide more fruity notes in the beer, but also make it easier to achieve a “stable cloudiness” and it certainly wasn't the yeast.
So - shaking it up helps! Nobody is perfect and of course “learning by doing”. The next brew with the yeast is planned and will go according to plan.
