With the fifth release of Tom J Newell's Patrons Project - a conceptual and literal totem pole from Imperial Stouts with the cans designed to be stacked on top of one another - the top is in sight, so we're taking the opportunity to look over ponder the previous series. "Rejoice!" dispenses with any bells and whistles - no additives, no barrel aging, no collaborations, but concentrates on the essentials of an Imperial Stout. It is the sum total of everything we have learned about this style from tinkering with the recipe in the previous four versions, and it prepares us for final ascension. We focused on the essentials of an Imperial Stout, the malt mix, and added black malt to the grist to create the silky smooth base of syrup, toffee and milk chocolate with a hefty dose of raisins, bitter, tannic dark chocolate and the warmth of toasted Tobacco.
