Pecan pie and Tennessee whiskey!
Every year, the Horizon Night Shift features a pastry stout. For our 2022 "pastry" Night Shift, we've taken a classic American pastry, pecan pie, as our inspiration. Pecan pie has a history dating back to the 1880s and is a particular favorite in the drier states of the US where bourbon whiskey is made, so we naturally chose a Tennessee whiskey barrel for barrel aging. Because the distillery it comes from uses barrels with a more characterful, considerably more vanilla essence, it's a fantastic fit for the base beer and the overall concept. The base beer is a dense, full-bodied imperial stout with lots of home-roasted pecans added to extract the flavours.
