Queen Margrete I (1353-1412) had a strong focus on the town of Nyborg. She expanded Nyborg Castle and started the construction of the Church of Our Lady. We have therefore chosen to dedicate this beer to her and her influence on Nyborg.
Queen Margrete I lived at a time when hops were just beginning to be used in beer and hop yards were becoming commonplace in Scandinavia. We have therefore chosen to make a beer with lots of hops. In addition, we have also chosen to add mint and juniper berries, which were often used in both beer and cooking in Denmark at the time.
Margrete 1. Bryg is a golden and aromatic top-fermented beer with low bitterness. It has a fresh aroma of juniper, mint, pine needles and citrus fruits. The flavour is very fresh with a pleasant sweetness to balance all the freshness. All in all, it's a super fresh thirst quencher that goes well with a hot summer day and many dishes.
Margrete 1. Bryg is one of several beers developed in a collaboration between Ørbæk Bryggeri and Nyborg Castle.
Best enjoyed with: Margrete 1. Due to its low bitterness, Bryg goes well with dishes without overly strong flavours. This can be poultry and fish. It can also be enjoyed as a welcome drink with some light snacks.
