The IPL is a typical bottom-fermented beer, but aromatic hops intended for top-fermented IPAs such as Agnus, Amarillo and Citra are used for hopping. The aroma and taste are citrusy, but the characteristic feature is a stronger, deliciously lingering bitterness. In the case of our IPL Bernard, this is 60 units of bitterness, while a regular lager has around 35 units.
The family-run Bernard brewery has brewed a limited quantity of 220 hectolitres of the new special. Just under a tenth of the brewed quantity is on tap, directly at the brewery in the Bernard Visitor Centre in Humpolec. Bernard IPL is available in patent-capped bottles at the brewery's branded outlets.
