Of Belgian origin, Witbier was created in the monasteries to guarantee the monks' livelihood (and happiness). Each region had unique recipes with a special touch of local ingredients. Before hops became popular, master brewers used herbs and / or condiments to balance the sweetness of the malt, inspiring the distinctive flavor of modern witbiers.
