"Perlenzauber" is Kalea's homage to the brewing art from small and independent breweries. Each year, the beer is brewed in a different brewery. The brewers have free rein at the brewing kettles, with one small restriction: they must use special hop varieties - "Perlen". And with one request: "Showcase your brewing skills."
This year, the brewers at the Gaffel private brewery from Cologne were allowed to brew Perlenzauber. Brewer Reiner Radke chose to use an old recipe for a "Wiess" and the hop variety "Perle" for his interpretation of Perlenzauber. Until the mid-20th century, Wiess was the national drink of the people of Cologne and therefore the ancestor of Kölsch as we know it today.
Enjoy the tasting!
