The Žatecký Světlý Ležák beer is brewed according to a recipe by Tomas Lejsek, a well-known Czech master brewer. This recipe is characterized by the use of unique Žatec hops. It gives the beer a slightly bitter taste and a balanced aroma. The Żateckie hop, also known as Saaz, dates back to the first half of the eleventh century. In 1261, a brewery was established in Žatec that brewed beer valued for its "extraordinary virtues, essence and strength". In the eighteenth century there were already 30 malt houses and 4 breweries. Nowadays, Zatecky hops are only grown in the Žatec area on an area of only 40 km2. This hop is recognized by beer professionals as one of the best in the world. Thanks to its universal taste properties, it has the status of a classic hop, which is used for brewing Pilsner-style beer.
